Beetle is certainly one of the most successful cars in the history of automobile industry. Since its launch more than 60 years ago it has remained an iconic car for all the people all over the world and every car lover wants to have one for sure. In the earlier days, Beetle was known as the people’s car because it was a simple car with extraordinary design that can simply make you fall in love. However, after more than 60 years, Volkswagen has decided to make some changes to it to make it more appealing for the next generation and to continue the trend of Beetle.
Now the third generation of Beetle is certainly going to be better and quicker than the earlier two generations and Volkswagen is trying hard to ensure that they live up to the expectations of the people. Volkswagen Group Design Chief Walter de Silva and Volkswagen Brand Design Chief, Klaus Bischoff said that redesigning a classic car is certainly a huge challenge because reinventing a perfect car needs something out of the box creation. Hence, they have to keep in mind the legacy and heritage of Beetle and redesign the car keeping in mind the old and new combination.
The all new 2012 Beetle will be somewhat new the earlier models and therefore Beetle car designers are going to make it look sporty since sports cars are already in the news and people love sporty cars these days. Hence, the front hood will be longer as the front windshield is shifted back and the hood will have steep incline. The 2012 Beetle is 71.2 inches wide (3.3 inches wider), 58.5 inches tall (.5 inches lower) and 168.4 inches long (6 inches longer). Hence, when the changes are made you will see that the new Beetle looks much more muscular and trendy than the earlier counterparts. Volkswagen will also give a new panoramic roof, range of audio options along with other personalization options. The car will be available in Turbo Charged TDI Clean Diesel and turbo charged gasoline engines.
The interiors will have carbon like dashboard along with all the instruments and gauges available closer to the driver so that the driver don’t need to bend too much to select their songs or get anything that he wants to. There are two air vents and GPS navigation system along with climate control well within drivers reach. From the inside the roof of the car will have sporty appearance instead of the cathedral ceiling effects.
The all new 2012 Beetle will have 2.5L gasoline five cylinder, the 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel and the 2.0L TSI turbocharged gasoline engine. When it comes to transmission choices users will have a 5-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic on 2.5L models. However, Volkswagen will also include their DSG 6 speed dual clutch transmission on models that offer TDI Clean Diesel for better performance. The car will have 200 horsepower and 207 lb feet of torque and it is estimated that it will provide 30 to 40 mpg on highway.
