Since their inception, the four-wheelers have gone a speedy evolutionary phase; and it is nowhere near completion. With the turn of every passing year, you can expect many new models and shapes of cars to emerge. The top car-producing brands of the whole world showcase new designs of their best selling cars.

If one was to rank world best selling cars, then indeed the task would not only be humongous but challenging as well. This is because the cars can be categorized into many classifications. For example, there is family sedan, sports car, station wagons, 4WDs and many more. Then of course there is the element of personal liking. Therefore we have chosen to list down some of the best selling cars with regard to their sales figures since the time of their birth. So let’s begin. We’ll start the countdown in reverse leading to the world’s top selling car at number 1 in the end.

10.  The Chevrolet Impala

Though the Chevrolet Impala has the honor of recording the best sales figure in one year, it is going to be at the bottom number of our world best selling cars because of the number of sales from the time of its introduction to present. Till now 14 million units have been sold to consumers. When it was introduced back in 1958, it took the market by storm with its sporty look and a two door design. The Chevrolet Impala grew into a sophisticated sedan over the years, but none had the same impact as did the Impala in 1964.

9.  The Volkswagen Passat

The sales of Volkswagen Passat has reached up to 14.1 million units since the time it was introduced in 1973 making it also one of the best selling cars of the world. This vehicle was a blessing in disguise for VW as the sales of Beetle had plunged deeply by the end of 1960. It was their first car to step into the modern era of vehicles being a nicely sized family car. It has been marketed with other names as well like Santana, Corsar, Carat etc.

8.  The Japanese Honda Accord

The Japanese Honda Accord has been a famous car throughout its time and undoubtedly one of the world best selling cars; more so because this particular brand sells its vehicles in more widespread market of the world than any other. Between the period of 1982 and 1997, it was the most preferred Japanese car in America. Honda Accord has long upheld its name in quality and style and has been able to sell up to 15.8 million units.

7.  Ford Model T

This car is not as famous in the world history as it has been important for the Americans. Literally known as the one to put America on wheels, this ancient-looking car was certainly the most affordable one ever to be produced for the middle class American society. Sales immensely grew as most people could afford it and this even led to the cities being connected by paved roads. So a monumental change brought about there by a small car. This car saw sales of 16.5 million units including it in the list of world best selling cars.

6.  Japanese Honda Civic

Some of the world best selling cars are the Japanese cars which have been an embodiment of style, comfort and affordability. One such example is the Honda Civic which has seen sales of 17.7 million units up till now. This economy car with its transverse-mounted engine sports an exceptionally roomy interior.

5.  Ford Escort from UK

Ford Escort is also known as the world car because of its compact design and economic nature. It was undoubtedly one of the Britain’s best selling cars. It later invaded the American market as well in competition with the Japanese cars. Its estimated sales till 2002 were 20 million units.

4.  Volkswagen’s Beetle

For almost 60 long years, the Beetle has been the world best selling car in the history of cars. Another amazing thing about this vehicle is that it sold the most units bearing the same shape over all those years, with only minute changes in its mechanics. Almost 23 million units were sold.

3.  Volkswagen Golf

Next up is the Volkswagen Golf which sold almost 25 million units. For the Americans who were looking for more cost effective deals in cars, this car certainly proved to be the one of best selling cars for them.

2.  Ford F Series

On the second place comes the Ford F Series. Hard to believe, but it sells more than any other vehicle every year leading its sales to reach almost 30 million units.

1.  Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla definitely gets the top rank in world best selling cars as it is sold at a record rate of every 40 second. This Japanese car combines elegant style, performance, reliability and utmost comfort. Every year the car undergoes major design change resulting in a beautiful vehicle every time.
