There was a lot of buzz when Chevrolet came up with the concept of 2012 Camaro ZL1 but this Saturday evening the very first 2012 Camaro ZL1 was offered to the public for sale and it was bought by Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group. The car was sold for $250,000 at the Barrett Jackson auction in Las Vegas. There were many people present at the auction ready to place their bids, but the winning bid was placed by Rick and he won the car in the auction.
The car was offered by Fairway Chevrolet Buick GMC in Las Vegas. Rick Hendrick, who is the winner of the auction will now pickup his new 2012 Camaro ZL1 in the first quarter of 2012. This will be the only Camaro ZL1 coupe that will have Carbon Flash metallic exterior. The car will be produced at the Oshawa Assembly Plant where so far only 69 such cars have been produced. The new 2012 Camaro ZL1 is a tribute to the 1969 model which became hugely popular all over the United States.
Russ Clark, Marketing Director for Chevrolet Performance Cars said that this car will perform well on the streets and improve the benchmark that has been set by the 1969 Camaro. He said that the auction was a great way to benefit a worthy cause for the YMCA. He further said that the 1969 Camaro is certainly the most popular of all models and that ZL1 is the code name for the big block engine that was developed in the late 60s and was incorporated in 1969 Camaro. The 2012 Camaro ZL1 will have a supercharged 6.2 liter LSA V8 engine that can produce 580 horsepower and 558 lb feet of torque. The car also comes with other advance features like Performance Traction Management and third generation Magnetic Ride Control.
