The muscle car phenomena raged all over the America as well as some parts of the world from the late 70’s to the early 80’s. Wildly popular and in great demand the classic muscle cars created history in the American automobile industry and found a nice spot for itself in the hall of fame.

The growl of the engine, the fire breathing from the hood and the attitude one got to display while rolling down the roads, the classic muscle car had it all.

There happens to be cloud surrounding the history of muscle cars. Nobody has a clear idea as to which car happened to be the first muscle car. Some historians conclude the Pontiac to be the first muscle car, while some automobile enthusiasts claim that the Pontiac was a modification of the 1964 GTO, the Tempest. It is generally accepted that the first muscle car consisted of a large V-8 engine and flaunted 389 cubic inches and a floor shift manual transmission. Although the size of the engine was a complete violation of the car manufacturing policy these mean machines were sold one after the other in quick succession. Mostly used for street racing or drag racing these muscle cars epitomized rage, attitude, riot and a certain coolness factor which was the main accessory for the youngsters of that generation.

Yet as it is said “all good things must come to an end”. The muscle car phase also received a crashing blow and was taken off the charts and the markets after its unbelievable rise. Insurance companies claimed that they would not insure the larger classic muscle cars and the muscle cars for sale, in addition to that, the oil issues brought about an extension to the downfall of the classic muscle cars thus giving them the final blow and knocking them off the edge.
