e 2010-2011 car of the year Japan award went to Honda CR-Z. The Honda CR-Z is a product of Tokyo (Kyodo) – Honda Motor Company. The executive committee of the car of the year Japan announced the CR-Z hybrid sports car as the winner. The committee said that the car had proved that high fuel economy stemming from the hybrid technology can co-exist with the fun to drive and that was the reason CR-Z for winning the award.
The executive committee also said that the CR-Z offered two features at high levels in a mass production model earlier than other carmakers. The CR-Z is the only gasoline-electric hybrid model offered by any automaker that can be equipped with a manual transmission. The CR-Z is the third hybrid electric car besides the Insight and the Civic hybrid. The CR-Z represents the sixth version of Honda’s IMA technology.
To enhance fuel economy, the CR-Z features a system that enables the one to select using push buttons among three different performance modes: normal, economy and sport. In the sport mode, it considerably tightens the steering and boosts the engine rpms for more performance. Contributing to the entertainment and information are lighted rings inside the tachometer: green for economy, blue for normal and red for sport.
The CR-Z also has a setup feature that shuts down engine at every stop signs. The gasoline engine re-starts automatically once the driver lifts his foot off the brake and engages the clutch. Another interesting feature of CR-Z is a digital speedometer that is three-dimensional. The speedometer appears to be floating in the space inside the tachometer.
