Nissan Leaf

Nissan has already started receiving a lot of orders for their very first 100% electric car Nissan Leaf. The car has won much appreciation and awards and has been selected as the European Car of the Year 2011 that adds to the success of the car. Although, most of the Nissan Leaf cars will be shipped in 2011 it has already received its first commercial customer. The Portuguese electric mobility consortium MOBI.E has taken the delivery of nine Nissan Leaf cars becoming the first commercial customer of this car in Europe. Nissan Leaf has been marketed as the first mass production 100% electric car in the world.

Carlos Tavares, Executive Vice President Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, handed over the car keys to the CEO of the nine companies that are the part of the consortium. At the event, there were many other top officials of Nissan were present like Pierre Loing, Vice President Product Strategy and Planning Nissan International SA and Diogo Jardim, Country Director Nissan Iberia SA – Portugal. The event took place in the capital city Lisbon.

The car keys were also handed over to the Portuguese government who has decided to receive one Nissan Leaf on loan for test drive purpose. To receive the car keys on behalf of the Portuguese government, Prime Minister, Jose Socrates was present. He said in his speech that Portugal is really happy to have this 100% electric car and it will be a commitment from the government to provide implementation of smart ideas that provides with better sustainable future.
