Geneva Motor Show 2012 is an event where usually new and opulent models take your breath away and this year was not an exception. The same way this large city from Switzerland is very important in terms of History, Culture, Education and Tourism, Geneva had the same effect on the vehicles that were unveiled at this important event.
Highlights
We experience a comeback of good old times. The most appreciated cars of Geneva Motor Show 2012 were a new Ferrari and a new Bentley, both 12-cylinder powered. Both of them are stunning to the eye simply by bringing into the mass-media and public attention the old branded cars with a new and modern design.
Expensive and Unique Models
Among the most expensive cars that were present at this show, the Rolls Royce and Ferrari exposed their top designs: an updated Phantom and a new and sleek F12 Berlinetta. The other premium brands were all very well represented. The Mercedes promoted their new and expensive SL roadster which created furors among the roadster fans, while BMW proudly presented their Gran Coupe design, an improved four-door version of the famous 6-Series and an incontestable rival for the Jaguar XF and Mercedes CLS.
Another model that attracted the public attention was the impressive XF from Jaguar. This model could be seen for the first time in its unique Sportbrake estate form. Specially build for country gents, this model can be considered the new Gentleman’s estate. XFl is more powerful than its previous version from last year, providing an extra four cylinders for speedy drivers.
C-Segment Premium Models
In addition to these expensive models, three new C-segment models were launched at Geneva this year. Only one of them played it safe, the others broke new ground. Audi A3 was the safe model, looking exactly like the outgoing model. This was a sensible decision and most probably not the best one, given Audi’s enormous popularity.
The other two models that represented a radical change compared to their predecessors were Volvo V40 and Mercedes A-Class. The Mercedes has more conventional hatchback proportions than its predecessor, since it might not look as a classic Mercedes anymore. Volvo’s switch to a hatch format will surely worth some sales, in addition to its benefits for the customers: a cool interior charged with a complex set of high-tech features, amazing exterior design and a powerful T5 petrol engine featuring 254 HP.
At the other end of this important C-segment, Kia and Hyundai gave the European models a run for their money, proving that Asian models are as good as European ones. The new Kia Cee’d provides a smooth powerful drive at a price that is cheaper that of its European competitors. The 7-year warranty proves that Kia thought twice before launching their top-level model. Compared to its previous models, Kia Cee’d features some changes, such as a more powerful engine and sleek aesthetics.
The SUV Category- Top Designs
At Geneva Motor Show 2012 the visitors could enjoy the latest SUV models. The Range Rover Evoque hit the headlines due to its convertible concept. Amazingly, this is the first convertible SUV ever to be created. The Land Rover proudly presented their DC100 concept which was specially designed to replace the old rugged Defender model. The DC100 was promoted with a unique color scheme that has never been seen in Europe until now- a combination of a red body with a white roof. This is the company’s interpretation on how the Defender model will look like.
Among all these attractive and unique models, one model has distinguished: it was the Bentley’s challenging EXP 9 F concept, who was in the spotlight for media pictures and interviews. Moreover, the beautiful girls near Bentley’s model were another attraction of the day.
An Unexpected Choice
We got used with unexpected choices of the visitors. A car that really impressed everybody was the modern Peugeot 208, with its large classy interior and powerful engine for the GT model. At a relatively small price, Peugeot models are made for prowling the large city centers rather than small villages. Peugeot provides several car finance options to the interested customers.
Geneva Motor Show 2012 was a success! Featuring both exotic models, such as Lamborghini Aventador J, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, and more popular choices, such as Peugeot 208, Range Rover Evoque and Volvo V40, the Geneva Motor Show showcased this year’s great step forward in the evolution of car designs and usability.
